Why Doug Durkee Started Elevated Outdoors

Elevated Outdoors is Doug Durkee's excavation, tree removal and lawn maintenance business, serving Glens Falls, Queensbury, Saratoga Springs, Lake George, Fort Ann, Argyle and nearby towns. Doug spent 15 years in construction and excavation, mostly excavation, working for other companies before he decided it was time to start running jobs on his own.

At those companies, Doug ran the jobs and handled the technical side, and he saw the same problem at every one of them: nobody kept anyone else informed. Communication is the part of the business he focuses on most now, so you know who's coming, what they're doing and where your job stands. Along with that, he takes real pride in the quality of the work, from the first dig to the final grade.

The name reflects how much the business covers. Jobs run from yard work all the way up to full house and site development, and on a new home, Elevated Outdoors handles everything except the structure itself. That range is why the word outdoors made it into the name.

Most of the work is in the towns around Glens Falls: Queensbury, Saratoga, Lake George, Fort Ann and Argyle. Doug also takes jobs in Vermont, in Castleton and further north, and has worked as far up as Middlebury.

Excavation, Tree Removal and Outdoor Services From Elevated Outdoors

Excavation, Tree Removal and Lawn Maintenance

Excavation, tree removal and lawn maintenance are the core of the business. Excavation is what he did most in his 15 years with other companies, and it's still the largest part of the work, from foundation digs and trenching to gravel driveways and grading. Tree removal is close behind, and lawn maintenance runs through the whole growing season.

Site Work for New Homes

On a new home, Elevated Outdoors handles everything except the building. That usually starts with land clearing, then the foundation dig, the concrete work that goes with it, the driveway base and the grading at the end. When something old stands in the way, demolition takes it down and the ground is filled, packed and graded for what comes next.

Landscaping and Hardscaping

Landscaping and hardscaping come up less often than the main work, but they're part of what Elevated Outdoors does: grading, garden beds, mulch, river rock and new seed, along with retaining walls, walkways and paths. Both are built on ground that has been graded and packed properly, which is the excavation side of the business at work.

Snow Removal Through the Winter

When the snow comes, the work turns to snow removal. Winter service runs on a list, so the best time to call is in the fall, before the first storm, when there's time to go over what needs clearing and where the snow can go.

How We Work With You

Every job starts with a conversation about what you need done and where. From there, you'll know what the job involves, when the crew is coming, and what changes if the ground or the weather brings a surprise. That's the communication Doug found missing at larger companies, and it's how Elevated Outdoors runs every job, from a single tree to a full house site.
